The multi-star system V892 Tau has shown signs of asymmetry and variability in its ro-vibrational CO emission which was observed with iSHELL from January 2020-2022. The origin of this variability may be caused by the eclipsing nature of the main binary components or by a proposed circumplanetary disk which may be located in the inner cavity of V892 Tau's circumstellar disk. We plan to observe this system on shorter timescales than either the binary or CPD orbital periods with a SNR per pixel ~100 in order to characterize the timescale of variability.
Also, we plan to perform spectroastrometry by observing the system along the semi-major and -minor axes in order to determine the spatial distribution of the emission. Previous spectroastrometric measurements show a signal of ~20 mas. With our proposed SNR per pixel ~100, the fidelity of the spectroastrometric signal will be ~3 mas [before stacking to increase the signal-to-noise], and so we should have a detection that exceeds 5 sigma for each individual line. These new iSHELL observations will then be compared to the previous data from January of 2020-2022 which we will use to discern the physical mechanism that is driving the observed asymmetry.
