# # Program information file # PROGRAM_ID 2023A032 PROGRAM_TITLE Near-Infrared Spectroscopy of Outer Main Belt Asteroids PROGRAM_INV1 Driss Takir PROGRAM_INV2 Joshua Emery PROGRAM_INV3 PROGRAM_INV4 PROGRAM_INV5 PROGRAM_SCICAT main-belt / Trojan asteroids PROGRAM_ABSTRACT_BEG The goal of this investigation is to search for signatures of H2O, hydrated silicates, anhydrous silicates, and/or organics on the surface of mid-outer main belt asteroids [2.5 < a < 4.0 AU] to further analyze the distribution of these objects and to provide new interpretations of thermal evolution and dynamical models for the origin and evolution of these bodies [1]. In general, the 0.7-2.5 um region includes overtones and combinations of vibrational modes of H2O, hydrated silicates, and organics, as well as electronic transitions in anhydrous minerals, including olivine and pyroxene. The 1.9-4.1 um region includes the 3-um feature, which is attributed to hydrated minerals or H2O ice. We are including the 0.7-2.5 um spectral region, for a deeper understanding of the phyllosilicates, any anhydrous silicates, and the opaque/carbonaceous component on the surface of these asteroids.
