2019 Apr 09 - TCS3 Engineering (T.Denault, G.Engh ) Goals TCS3 pointing run. (1st half of night, Tue 04/09/2019, 6:50pm-12:30am) Last one was done on 2017-12-06. 1. Encoder Measurement Asked DayCrew to clean/inspect gears/encoders/tachometer. Done per Daycrew. East current were high - some confusion the which balance is the 'best', Daycrew indicates "test04-02-19". Did encoder measurement. will used the new ratios: 19.9469514337 19.9272320392 encoder measure data stored here: data/encoders/ 2. How is the tcs servo performance? Tracking is OK. Following error range is HA 0.186, Dec 0.021. HA has funny oscillation. 190409-tcs-tracking.png (But later on tracking got better, following error between 0.109 to 0.128. 3. Benchmark current TCS Started at 7:05pm Using current TCS version v190220. Pattern: benchmark13 NOTED - motors fighting durig slew: 190409-tcs-slewing-bad1.png - bad slew, motor push, and braking. 190410-tcs-slewing-normal.png - this is a good slew. 190409-tcs-slewing-bad2.png - another bad slew. tpoint file: b1.dat .ape file: b1.ape Done at 7:30pm 4. Pointing Run Change TCS to new version v190409 (with new encoder ratios). Starting at 8:00 - using GRID w/ 70 stars Done taking data at 9:05 .. 1hr 05min In general, tracking (following error) looks good. tpoint file: point.dat .ape file: point.ape used all data, RMS = 178.33 Removed #1, RMS = 18.99 Removed #69, RMS = 18.36 Removed #6, RMS = 17.28 Removed #12, RMS = 16.74 Adjusted data file is: point-adj.dat tpoint.log - log of fit using point-adj.dat point.ps point.pdf - tpoint graphs (postscript and PDF) point_coeff.txt - resulting coefficients. Updated .tcs-init with new coefficients # coefficients from 2019/04/09 pointing run: IH +67.4612 ID -164.5890 NP +7.1159 CH -77.7909 ME +25.4250 MA +33.3327 HCES +143.8543 HCEC -29.0235 DCES -414.3360 DCEC +123.5879 FO +5.2252 TF -154.8597 TX +36.8867 5. B2 benchmark Doing benchmark "b2" with new coefficients Started at 10:00... finished at 9:22 Now, let's compare the 2 benchmarks: Here is a graph of HA error of b1.dat vs b2.dat gnuplot to make the graphs: plot 'b1.ape' using 10 with linespoints title 'b1 HA pt.madj' replot 'b2.ape' using 10 with linespoints title 'b2 HA pt.madj' Here is a graph of DEC error of b1.dat vs b2.dat gnuplot to make the graphs: plot 'b1.ape' using 11 with linespoints title 'b1 Dec pt.madj' replot 'b2.ape' using 11 with linespoints title 'b2 Dec pt.madj' 6. Conclusion Point run when well. Many, if not all, were in the FOV from slew to slew. New coefficients are almost equal, or just slighty better that the old one. HA has a slight improvement in the graph. DEC was about the same. Will keep the new TCS v190409 pointing coefficients. Finished at 22:30
