2017 Mar 13 TCS3 Engineering (T.Denault, E.Volquardsen ) Goals TCS3 pointing run. (1nd half of night, Sat 3/13/2017, 6:30pm-12:00pm) 1. Encoder Measurement done during the day on Fri 3/10 Asked DayCrew to clean/inspect gears/encoders/tachometer. I.Namahoe reported this was done on Tues. Did encoder measurement. per instruction in TCS Manual 1203. Encoder measurement saved as r-170310.dat HA ratio average is: 19.9545344 +0.01172070 vs the current HA value Dec ratio average is: 19.9259447 -0.00022099 vs the current DEC value Data and Log can be view at: http://irtfweb.ifa.hawaii.edu/~tcs3/tcs3/data/encoders/ Note: HA varation is larger in the last 2 years, vs the past. HA has increased slightly, will use new encoder ratios Dec if very stable, Here is the summary graph from the spreadsheetencoder_graph.png Will used new encoder ratios for TCS during pointing run: TCS3 v170313 2. How is the tcs servo performance? tracking looks good, Following error range is HA 0.098, Dec 0.01. Very good. 170313-tcs-tracking.png 3. Benchmark current TCS humidity at 88% Starting at 7:05pm Using current TCS version v170131. Pattern: benchmark13 tpoint file: b1.dat .ape file: b1.ape EV recorded an HD check start, rather that an FK5 catalog star on one data point. Done at 8:02pm 4. Pointing Run Install the NEW TCS version v170313. Starting at 7:50 - using GRID w/ 70 stars Done taking data at 8:45 .. only 1hr 05min tpoint file: point.dat .ape file: point.ape Removed 5 stars: line 4, 59, 66, 71, 72. using SLIST, then deleting outlier candidates. Got fit of: sky RMS 13.16 Adjusted data file: point-adj.dat point.ps point.pdf - tpoint graphs (postscript and PDF) point_coeff.txt - resulting coefficients. Updated .tcs-init with new coefficients # coefficients from 2017/03/13 pointing run: IH +111.1972 ID -232.0626 NP +2.8654 CH -88.2011 ME +1.0229 MA +24.3780 HCES +135.4469 HCEC -79.8703 DCES -463.6234 DCEC +135.9058 FO +37.5064 TF -0.2809 TX -47.6037 5. B2 benchmark Doing benchmark "b2" with new coefficients Started at 9:30 ... finished at 9:50 Eric indicated the 2nd benchmark was noticeably better. Now, let's compare the 2 benchmarks: Here is a graph of HA error of b1.dat vs b2.dat gnuplot to make the graphs: plot 'b1.ape' using 10 with linespoints title 'b1 HA pt.madj' replot 'b2.ape' using 10 with linespoints title 'b2 HA pt.madj' Here is a graph of DEC error of b1.dat vs b2.dat gnuplot to make the graphs: plot 'b1.ape' using 11 with linespoints title 'b1 Dec pt.madj' replot 'b2.ape' using 11 with linespoints title 'b2 Dec pt.madj' 6. Conclusion New coefficients look better that the old one. HA error improved from +/- 60 a/s to +4/-6 as DEC slop was about the same, but now more centered at zero. Will keep the new TCS v170313 with new encoder ratios, and new pointing coefficients.
