Staff Shutdown Instructions for SpeX
Instructions for a complete shutdown of SpeX. 1. Stopping the Software 1.1 Vnc to stefan:1 to stop the bigdog software (IC, XUI, IARC and DV): Type 'die' in the XUI to quit the IC and XUI. Cntl-C in the iarc xterm to terminate IARC. Quit DV. If the die on XUI does not work, you can reboot/ power OFF the PC at this point. (see 2.2). to reboot any linux computer: ssh to the computer as root. type the 'reboot' command. ONLY if this method fails, then resort to using the physical RESET button on the PC. 1.2. Vnc to stefan:2 to stop the guidedog software (IC, XUI, IARC and DV): Type 'die' in the XUI to quite the IC and XUI. Cntl-C in the iarc xterm to terminate IARC. Quit DV. If the die on XUI does not work, you can reboot or power OFF the PC at this point. (see 1.1, 2.2) 1.3 Vnc to ldog:16000 to stop the littledog software Type cntl-C in the terminal to stop the littledog software. If your have trouble, you can reboot or power OFF the PC at this point. (see 1.1, 2.2) 2. Turning off power 2.1. Powering Down Cool Racks Equipment Run 'rpcm' in an stefan xterm to run the RPC Manager. Select 'spexoutpwr' in the pull down menu. Click on the 'Get Status' button to see the current status. H2RG_Spect - Select OFF to turn off the Bigdog/H2RG Power (Agilent P/S + IARC controller). Aladdin_Guide - Select OFF to turn off the Guidedog/Aladdin Power (Agilent P/S + IARC controller). Motor_Control - Select OFF to turn off power to the Motor Control Box WTI_Cal_Lamps - Select OFF to turn off power to the CalLamp Controll box. Note: SpeX's Temperature Controller box is plugged directly into the UPS outlet. The coolracks temperature controller box must be manually accessed to power off. 2.2. Power Down the Computers The PC used for SpeX are bigdog, guidedog, and ldog. These are located in the TCS room. To powering down these systems, do the following: ssh to 'bigdog' as root. Type '/sbin/poweroff' to have the PC power itself down. If necessary, manually turn off the PC's power supply switch (located on the back of the PC). Repeat for the host 'guidedog'. Repeat for the host 'ldog'.
