From rayner@galileo.ifa.hawaii.edu Wed Oct 23 08:03:11 2002 Date: Mon, 21 Oct 2002 15:22:32 -1000 (HST) From: John Rayner To: techgroup@jeans.ifa.hawaii.edu, operators@jeans.ifa.hawaii.edu Cc: gregg@igpp.ucllnl.org Subject: Re: TroubleLog The problem with guidedog guide boxes was due to a synch problem with data coming across the fiber. For network reasons guidog was rebooted but it seems that the 'array_init' macro was not subsequentally executed. Although the data looked OK, on closer examination it was shifted over by 8 pixels, causing the slit to be mismatched from the guideboxes. OPERATORS please note. Whenever guidedog or bigdog are rebooted or after killing and restarting the ICs, ALWAYS RUN THE 'array_init' macros. This ensures that the data is properly synchronized. I know the operators will sometime forget to do this or forget to remind the observers to do this, so it's important that this be done automatically. Tony says he can build array_inits into startic. This will take half a day of his time. Until this is done the OPERATORS MUST REMEMBER TO RUN ARRAY_INIT on restarting the ICs. This problem is rare but the effects significant. I've never seen it before but Peter and Tony saw it in the lab during testing. Alan and Peter. It is important that Tony be given time to do this. (As you know he also has an extensive backlog of SpeX software that needs doing but isn't getting done.)
