In order to run NSFCam from HP, the observer needs to remotely log in to stefan (the computer at the summit). (In the past, one could run the instrument directly from the HP computers - kelvin and helmholtz. This no longer can be done. We are looking into restoring this ability.) The following steps should be carried out in order run NSFCam from the HP machines:
  1. On kelvin or helmholtz, xhost + stefan
  2. rlogin -l account stefan (where account is the user account, such as guest01).
  3. On stefan, setenv DISPLAY machine:0.0 (where machine is kelvin or helmholtz).
  4. camxui &
  5. vf &
  6. On the Command Line, set the TCSHOSTNAME to be machine. (This will prevent the telescope from moving, should the observer set the mode to Nod (AB) while operating at HP.)
  7. Proceed with normal NSFCam operations.
Since the observer is now running NSFCam directly from stefan, there is no need to set the XUIHOSTNAME parameter. (If one were running NSFCam directly from kelvin or helmholtz, this parameter would have to be set to the machine name.)
