We propose to use iSHELL in selected CO2 spectral windows at 1.18, 1.74 and 2.25-2.5 um to map the distribution of trace gases [CO, OCS, H2O, SO2, HCl and HF] at different altitudes below the cloud base. There are several reasons to get these maps. The H2O and SO2 abundances are tests of models of cloud production and dissipation. The abundances of CO and OCS may be proxies for regions of upwelling and downwelling flows. The abundances of HF and HCl potentially constrain surface/atmosphere coupling by surface minerals and are also tracers of volcanic activity. PROGRAM_ABSTRACT_END
