Printing the sky map procedures document

Be reminded that laser printing is one-sided only, and printing out your own copy will result in a thick pile of paper as well as distress for the Spotted Owls in the Pacific Northwest. Double sided photocopies of the document have been distributed. Ask me (harwood@ifa.hawaii.edu) for one if you can wait a few days for it (if you aren't on Oahu). Otherwise, if you are in a hurry, here's how to roll your own.

At IRTF:

  1. Change directory to /local/skymap/document
  2. Print the main document from the PostScript file: lpr skymap.ps
  3. Print the examples of pattern files:
    enscript -2rG bmark.pat
    enscript -2rG irtfwe.pat
  4. Print the vector plot examples:
lpr examperr.ps (plot of raw errors)
    lpr examprsd.ps (plot of residuals)

NOTE: At this writing, the laser printer at the IRTF works intermittently, probably due to Solaris 2.4 weirdities. It does not print from the plot program SM when following the directions in the sky map writeup. There are no guarantees that it will print as described here.

At IfA headquarters:

Assumes you have a default PostScript printer specified in your environment. If not, or if you want to access a different printer, use the option -P[printername] with the Unix print commands (enscript, lpr).

  1. Log into irmanoa1. Change directory to ~harwood/skymap/document
  2. Print the main document from the PostScript file: lpr skymap.ps
  3. Print the examples of pattern files:
