Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2001 11:42:57 -1000 (HST) From: Tony Denault To: techgroup@jeans.ifa.hawaii.edu Subject: LaserTraffic Announcement Hello All, This email is to introduce the staff to the Mauna Kea Laser Traffic System. The IRTF will particpate in this system. The 1st Laser Test is schedule for Dec 11 (Tuesday). Keck would like use to provide this data tonight (for testing purposes). The changes will affect the Telescope Operators procedures. Background information on this can be found on the LaserTraffic home page: http://irtf.ifa.hawaii.edu/Facility/LaserTraffic Please review the External Documents and Specifications for background information. If you read this, you know as much as I do. The IRTF will provide TCS pointing data using a program called lt_info. This has been installed on max, duke, stefan, and boltzmann. I expect the TO to run this program on Max. I would like them to test it tonight as it will be require for Tuesday. The web page has a manual page for the lt_info command. By default, it is intended to update the web link every 15 seconds. After corresponding with the Keck contact, I asked keck for a 15 second polling rate. They were going to use a 1 second rate. Email except from Doug Summers : >As we agreed, I will use a 15 second polling rate from the Collector to >process collision predictions from the LTCS. Let me know when you'd like >me to take a look at the sample URL. The Laser_Impact flag is the key indicator. It tells the LTCS if their laser will impact our observing. It is tricky, as it should be set by the Operators and changes depending on observing situation. I suspect there need to be some discussion on this in a techgroup like setting, or the Support Scientist will need to provide guidance.
