2016 Mar 12 TCS3 Engineering (T.Denault, B.Cabreira )

Goals

TCS3 pointing run. (1nd half of night, Sat 3/12/2016, 7:30pm-12:00pm)

1. Encoder Measurement done during the day on Fri 3/10

Asked DayCrew to clean/inspect gears/encoders/tachometer. D.Watanabe reported
this was done on Tues.

Did encoder measurement. per instruction in TCS Manual 1203.
Data and Log can be view at: http://irtfweb.ifa.hawaii.edu/~tcs3/tcs3/data/encoders/
The encoder_log.pdf provide a good summary of the ratios over the years.

Took notice of AMP during encoder measurement.

 HA(hrs) AMP
   -4 ~5
   -2 2.0
    0 -0.2 zenith
   +2 +3.8
   +4 ~5

 DEC(deg) AMP
    60 1.6
    50 1.2
    40 0.6
    20 -2.4 zenith
     5 -3
     0 -3.0
   -10 -3.8
   -40 -5.0

Will email Lars to see if telescope is properly balanced.
Lars also noted funny spiking of the AMP with Resting at MP mode. ie, south would
jump from 0 to 2 amp repeatedly.

Encoder measurement saved as r-160311.dat.
HA ratio average is: 19.9428137 +0.007955 vs old HA value.
Dec ratio average is: 19.9261657 +0.001701 vs old DEC value

Will used new encoder ratios for TCS during pointing run: TCS3 v160312

2. Bad servo performance of the TCS

Wow, never saw this before. Something bad is happening.

Later it looked a little better....
160312-tcs-bad_servo-2.png/

Also...
cross hair generation still showing up in smokey... Why not put cross hair generator after
spitting video signal to the smokey PC?

See MirSup ON & Volt Low.. votage is -1.68 to -3.10V.. was it positive before?

3. Benchmark current TCS

Starting at 7:30pm
Using current TCS version v160211.

goto zenith, stop, ape.set.pmac.
filename: b1.dat
Pattern: benchmark13

tpoint file: b1.dat
.ape file: b1.ape

Done at 8:02pm

4. Pointing Run

Using NEW TCS version v160312.

Starting at 8:09 - using GRID w/ 70 stars
Done taking data at 9:14 .. only 1hr 05min

tpoint file: point.dat
.ape file: point.ape

Removed stars: #41, #1, #68. Then the fit was OK, RMS 12.413
Used point-2.dat as input to tpoint

point.ps
point.pdf - tpoint graphs (postscript and PDF)
point_coeff.txt - resulting coefficients.

Updated .tcs-init with new coefficients
# coefficients from 2016/03/12 pointing run:
  IH +89.0676 ID -196.4605
  NP -11.7979
  CH -94.4227
  ME +3.6561
  MA +12.6527
  HCES +164.6205
  HCEC -49.7488
  DCES -439.1152
  DCEC +134.5565
  FO +45.7114
  TF -11.7650
  TX -45.7794

5. B2 benchmark

Doing benchmark "b2" with new coefficients
Started at 9:58 ... finished at

Now, let's compare the 2 benchmarks:

Here is a graph of HA error of b1.dat vs b2.dat

   gnuplot to make the graphs:
plot 'b1.ape' using 10 with linespoints title 'b1 HA pt.madj'
replot 'b2.ape' using 10 with linespoints title 'b2 HA pt.madj'

Here is a graph of DEC error of b1.dat vs b2.dat

   gnuplot to make the graphs:
plot 'b1.ape' using 11 with linespoints title 'b1 Dec pt.madj'
replot 'b2.ape' using 11 with linespoints title 'b2 Dec pt.madj'

6. Conclusion
New coefficients look better that the old one. (bigger HA improvement vs Dec).
Will keep the new TCS v160312 with new encoder ratios, and new pointing coefficients.
