Running Cshell - Observers Instructions

These procedures are for running cshell at the summit and remotely. To run cshell, you will need:

    1. An IRTF Guest Account.
    2. The cshell VNC session address and VNC password.
    3. A VNC Viewer.

1. Create you guest account

2. Obtaining the vnc session address and VNC password
Contact the IRTF Telescope Operators or DayCrew for the cshell VNC session number and password. The staff create the cshell VNC session, starts the cshell software, and provides the password to the observer. They will give you the server display number N, use this number to access your VNC sesssion.
CSHELL normall run in vnc session 7 so use, "stefan.ifa.hawaii.edu:7".

3. Start the VNC Viewer
On the IRTF workstation, type of following command. (This example assumes you display number is 7 )

    > vncviewer stefan.ifa.hawaii.edu:7
Remote user can connect to the VNC session using their own VNC client software. (Mac and Window users should use the RealVNC clients)
