Connecting to the IRTF Networks

  1. Introduction

RJ45 connections are available for IRTF observers & guests at HP and the summit.

Contact the telescope staff for your connection on the summit. To avoid conflicts with other observing groups, contact the staff before to connecting your computers to the IRTF network.

Please check with IRTF support astronomers or computer people before adopting a guest IP, to make sure it isn't already in use.

10baseT connections are available at HP (in the offices with the workstations "wien" and "helmholtz") and the summit (ask the telescope operator).

  5. The guest IPs are not assigned. To avoid possible conflicts with another observer, please "ping" the IP you intend to use first, to make sure it is not already in use. You can ping by logging on to one of the Sun workstations and entering, say,

      /usr/sbin/ping 128.171.71.60
