Christopher Johns-Krull Infrared observations have contributed to many significant advances in the field of star and planet formation, and there is every reason to expect this to continue. The IRTF has aggressively pursued instrumentation to keep the observatory on the cutting edge of technology and capabilities. I will review current IRTF science capabilities and how these have been applied to advance our understanding of star and planet formation. I will then speculate on potential new or improved capabilities that could aid in making additional high impact discoveries in the field of star and planet formation. It is hoped that this talk will spur discussion and community input on the directions that will help answer many of the pressing questions in the field.
